This study was compiled from the Life Valid Survey submitted to Icelanders in 1999. It was examined whether there was a difference in the views on life in different residential areas. Living was divided into three parts: Reykjavík, the neighboring municipalities of Reykjavík and the countryside.

This study was compiled from the Life Valid Surveys that were submitted to Icelanders in 1984, 1990 and 1999. When analyzing the survey from 1999, it was checked whether there was a difference between people's views on life in different Reykjavík city areas. It was also checked whether the views of the people of Reykjavík had changed from previous surveys.

The aim of this study was twofold.

First, to map out which district Reykjavík is most similar to Mosfellsbær, what concerns the background factors of education, occupation, working hours and family income of the population.

Secondly, the aim was to compare average grades of uniform examinations in Icelandic and mathematics in grades 4, 7, and 10 in compulsory school within the districts of Reykjavik, which were similar to Mosfellsbær with respect to education and work, at average grades of compulsory school in Mosfellsbær.

Third, comparing the social composition of the population of Mosfellsbær during the period 1986 to 2003, and the background factors were education, occupation, working hours and family income after the years 1986-1987, 1992-1993, 1997-1998 and 2002-2003.

Social Science Institute conducted a survey for ASI in the spring of 2008. A sample of 1000 people aged 18 to 35 was taken from the National Registry. The net response rate was 63.7%.
