The Social Science Research Institute of the University of Iceland conducts research and provides consultancy across a wide range of fields within the social sciences. The Institute undertakes both academic research and projects aimed at generating knowledge to support policy development, decision-making, and service improvement.
A substantial proportion of the Institute’s projects are carried out in collaboration with researchers and staff at the University of Iceland. The Institute also works with a wide range of external clients, including government ministries, public institutions, municipalities, businesses, civil society organizations, stakeholders, and researchers. Projects may be national or international in scope.
The Institute’s projects include opinion surveys, evaluations of policies and services, research into the experiences and circumstances of different groups, and larger research projects employing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches.
The Institute also provides teaching and consultancy on research and research methods, both within the University of Iceland and to external clients.
