 Open survey

Good health and well-being of senior citizens is one of the fundamental aspects of modern welfare societies. The Social Science Research Institute of the University of Iceland has conducted a survey on the well-being and behavior of older people in Iceland for more than two decades. This survey was carried out at the request of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Labor Market and is specifically examining social isolation and loneliness. The results are intended to be used in the government's work to shape improvements in the issue.

The participants were selected by a sample from the national register. Participation consists of answering a questionnaire with questions about aspects related to your well-being and health. You can either answer the questionnaire over the phone or online. It takes about 15 minutes to complete the survey. The survey can be answered in four different languages: Icelandic, English, Polish, and Spanish.

Confidentiality of the participants is a priority in all research work. If you decide to participate in the survey, you can choose to skip questions that you do not want to answer and can stop participating at any time. We take care that your answers will not be personally identifiable in our data or in the final report with results.

It is important to get information about the health and well-being of older people in Iceland for policy making and improvements in the issue. We hope that you will consider contributing to the cause.

The person responsible for the research is Ásdís A. Arnalds, director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Iceland. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact the researchers at heg@hi.is or by phone at 525-4167.
