Research on parental leave

Text

We request your participation in a study on parents’ use of parental leave and childcare arrangements. An invitation is sent to parents at the legal residence of all children born in 2019 and 2021. We hope that as many parents as possible will be able to participate in the study. On average it takes 30 minutes to complete the questionnaire.

Open survey

The research is a long-term study conducted by academics at the University of Iceland. The study is supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Labor Market. This is the fifth time the study is conducted. With repeated surveys, a unique database has been created that shows how parents have arranged parental leave, employment, and childcare over the past quarter of a century. The results of previous surveys have attracted international attention, and on the website of the project parentalleave.hi.is you can find information about the results of the long-term study.

The Social Science Research Institute at the University of Iceland handles the data collection for the study. All data will be handled in accordance with the Act on Personal Protection and Processing of Personal Information (Act no. 90/2018). Names or other traceable information will not appear during the processing of the data and the Social Science Research Institute makes sure that responses to the survey questions cannot be traced to individuals. There is no obligation to participate, but good participation is extremely important for the results to be as reliable as possible.

If you would like more information, please contact Ásdís A. Arnalds, director of the Social Science Research Institute, tel.525-5493 or via email aaa1@hi.is.
